Domestic Abuse Services
HELP of Door County provides services and programs throughout Door County to victims of domestic abuse. We work to improve the well-being and dignity of individuals, families, and intimate relationships. We do this by supporting and enhancing their strengths to reduce the incidence of violence and conflict within their relationships. We are here to listen without judgment, support without blaming, and empower victims through advocacy and information. HELP does not provide counseling. All victim services are free and confidential.
Safe Homes – HELP has a network of safe homes around the county where we can ensure that victims of abuse will be safe. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Legal Advocacy – HELP does NOT have lawyers on staff, NOR can we provide legal advice. We do have experience dealing with domestic violence and abuse within the legal system. We can help guide you through the restraining order process. As a service representative, we can accompany you to court to provide support.
Women’s Education and Support Group – Any women who come to HELP for domestic abuse services may be invited to participate in a weekly education and support group. In the group they can explore options for their future by networking with other women who have had similar experiences.
Information and Supportive Services – HELP staff is available to listen to your story without judging. We can provide referrals to area agencies which may be able to assist you, including, but not limited to, Housing Authority, Legal Aid, and Child Support. We also provide victims and their families with education about Domestic Violence such as the Cycle of Violence, the Power and Control Wheel, and the Equality Wheel.
Community Outreach – HELP staff conducts workshops, trainings and speaking engagements to service organizations, churches and agencies regarding issues of prevention and intervention of domestic abuse.
Older Adult Victim Services – HELP is a leader in providing services for older victims of abuse. We can assist families in cases of self-neglect, caregiver abuse, partner abuse, and primary prevention of abuse where risk factors are present. Women’s Issues is a monthly support group for older women.
Transitional Living Program – the mission of HELP's Transitional Living Program is to assist victims of domestic abuse gain safety for themselves and their children. The goal of empowering them to ongoing self-sufficiency is met through a seamless network of community and human services resources.
